Studies from the Medical College of Georgia show that tea polyphenols activate separate pathways for normal cells and healthy cells. Tea polyphenols target and destroy the mitochondria of cancer cells which lead to their destruction by a chemical called Capsase 3. Other studies from the Japanese Cancer Association show that adding tea polyphenols EGCG to various cancer fighting drugs increased the effectiveness in killing lung cancer cells by 2-8 times compared to using each of the drugs alone. The study also showed that combining tea polyphenols with the drugs reduced the risk of side effects.
